Subject: Ms. Pitts called me in response to the Department letter dated April 10, 2008. She stated that she had been unaware that the property has an environmental issue. She asked what is needed to be done at the property. I explained to her that there is documented petroleum contamination, and that a site assessment will need to be done to further characterize the contamination and that additional cleanup work may be necessary. She stated that she didn't know where to start with all of this. I suggested that she look in the yellow pages and contact some environmental consultants to provide some proposals to do the work. She asked why this is all coming about now. I explained to her that the Department had pursued this with Bay Coast Petroleum at one time, and that I didn't know what happened after that. She stated that the previous property owners and the Health Department had represented the property to be free of environmental issues. I told her that I couldn't speak for the Health Department. She stated that this is all new to her. I suggested that she contact some consultants, and then set up a meeting with the Department to review the file and to discuss the situation. I suggested that she bring a consultant to meet with us. She stated that will call me back by next Friday (the 18th) to further discuss this and/or set up a meeting.

Description: Northwest District receives UST system closure notification on October 24, 2008 from Advanced Environmental Technologies, LLC (AET). This closure inspection was conducted on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 for the closure by removal of two unmaintained 1,000-gallon USTs that were discovered in the same tankfield located at the extreme northwest corner of the property in the FDOT right-of-way. The facility is closed, and the age and the installation date of the tanks are unknown. The facility has a previous program-eligible discovery of contamination dated August 1, 1991 that is currently undergoing cleanup in the ATRP. The UST system removals and associated soil source removal work is being coordinated by Petroleum Cleanup Section #3 team at the Bureau of Petroleum Storage Systems (BPSS). No financial responsibility for UST systems. On October 20, 2008, AET forwarded a Storage Tank Facility Registration Form to Tallahassee to register one of the tanks.
